Our Story
The first meeting of a group of Black women convened on August 6, 1974. We organized with the idea of offering activities and programs to our community that were socially, culturally, religiously and educationally oriented. From our stated objectives we named our organization SCORE. In the latter part of 2004, the name SCORE was changed to Ladies of SCORE.
The organization has always included many African American educators, city of Kankakee and government employees, businesswomen, leaders of their churches and more who beat the odds. We exist to uplift the Black community of Kankakee, the city at large and its youth. Generations today count SCORE or Ladies of SCORE as influences on their paths to education, business and more.
Since our inception, we have sponsored the following programs:
*Halloween Visits to Nursing Homes
*Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets for Needy Families
*Black Cultural Fair
*Palm Sunday Services
*Presentation of Scholarships to Select Students
*Debutante Cotillion
*Toy Shower/Fashion Show
*Mad Hatters Extravaganza
*Senior Health Fair
*Winter Coats and Accessories Drive
*Rainbow Scholarship Ball (Co-Sponsor)
