Celebrate Honorary Ira D. Nelson Avenue
Join the crowd at the corner of North Schuyler and Birch Avenue in Kankakee at 11 a.m. to celebrate “Honorary Ira D. Nelson Way” to honor the eponymous Nelson’s Barbershop, established by Lady Ruby Nelson’s late husband in the 1960’s as Kankakee’s first licensed Black-owned barbershop. A special guest ceremony begins at 11 a.m.
